HISTORY LEARNING TARGETS
Children will:
1.1 Know about celebrations that have taken place in their own lives and in those of
family members
1.2 Know how some celebrations mark past events. Know about the main past and
present celebrations in their home and host countries
1.3 Be able to ask and answer questions about celebrations
1.4 Be able to use key words such as celebrations, births, birthdays, weddings, past
and present, then and now, memories, etc.
1.5 Be able to order celebratory events in their lives and those of their family
1.7 Be able to find out about the past from members of their family and from pictorial
and written evidence
1.8 Be able to communicate their knowledge and understanding in a variety of ways to
others
1.9 Understand that the actions of some people are celebrated in different ways
1.10 Understand that the past is represented in many different ways
TECHNOLOGY LEARNING TARGETS
Children will:
1.1 Know that products used in celebrations have an effect on people’s lives
1.2 Be able to plan for a celebration in pictures and words, and plan and select certain
aspects of the celebration such as food, decorations, headgear, etc.
1.3 Be able to describe their plans for a celebration in pictures and words
1.4 Be able to use simple tools and materials to make a product that could be used
for a celebration
1.5 Be able to choose appropriate tools and materials for their celebration products
1.6 Be able to comment on their celebratory plans and products
1.7 Be able to comment on the usefulness of products for a celebration

CELEBRATIONS
ART LEARNING TARGETS
Children will:
1.1 Learn about, enjoy and respect the work of artists who have contributed to
celebrations
1.2 Be able to use a variety of processes and materials, such as body paint and digital
cameras to produce their own celebratory art
1.3 Be able to express their own ideas about celebrations in images
1.4 Be able to comment on different celebratory art work produced in different parts
of the world
1.5 Understand that the work of artists can be seen on bodies, on masks, on walls,
etc.
MUSIC LEARNING TARGETS
Children will:
1.1 Know a number of celebratory songs
1.2 Know a number of other celebratory pieces of music
1.3 Know how musicians, including those from their own and host countries have
written and performed music for celebrations
1.4 Be able to recognise and explore ways in which sounds are organised to give the
feeling of a celebration
1.5 Be able to sing familiar celebratory songs
1.6 Be able to play simple rhythms for their celebratory songs with a steady beat
1.7 Compose and sing a simple piece of music for a celebration
1.8 Be able to perform their celebratory pieces of music individually and with others
1.9 Be able to use their own symbols to represent the sounds in their compositions
1.10 Be able to listen to pieces of celebratory music and comment on them
1.11 Be able to recall a simple celebratory tune
1.12 Be able to suggest ways of improving their work
1.13 Understand how different elements of sounds including voices are used to create
different celebratory effects
1.14 Understand that music can be used for celebratory purposes
