The Middle Hall was tranformed on Thursday 23rd February as year 5 parents had to decide which planet they would live on. They discovered that planet Earth had been destroyed and the human race needed another planet to survive on.
The children worked extremely hard using their learning from science, art, design technology, literacy, numeracy and ICT to convince members of the audience.
Which planet would you decide to live on?

Recognising the properties of shapes can be extremely tricky especially when you’re having to use words that you wouldn’t normally use. So, to help us remember, identify and understand we decided to ‘become’ parallel and perpendicular! We had a lot of fun being inventive with our bodies to show the mathematical vocabulary.

As our IPC topic is called ‘Mission to Mars’ and we are learning about Earth and space, it seemed a great idea to invite a planetarium to visit the year 5 classes. We were so excited! For some of us it was our first time to visit one. The entrance was really exiciting too! We learnt about seasons, night and day and star constellations. We learnt so much from Matthew and said so at the end too!

To start off our IPC topic, the whole of year 5 went to the Science Museum. We watched a 3D film about a NASA moon landing and explored the science and space area. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and it was a great way to start off our super space learning!

Our Year 5 science topic: changing sound had the children design and make their own unique musical instrument. Their challenge: –
- Their instrument had to make a variety of sounds
- Their instrument had to change pitch.
They met their challange and were very proud! Our instruments are on display in our classroom. Well done Year 5!

Today in Year 5 we had a visit from a pharmacist, Daniel, and PC Mark Denny. They spoke to us about drugs and the implications of taking them. Daniel taught us about legal drugs and how even over the counter medicine can be dangerous if we don’t take it correctly. PC Denny spoke to us about illegal drugs and the consequences of ‘being in possession’. We had an interesting morning and had a lot of our questions answered, but we still have more to find out…

Miss Thurlow had a wonderful surprise for us in the school grounds this week.
It’s a new sculpture… a Values Tree sculpture.
Have you seen it? Have you read the leaves?
