Tuesday 9th February is Safer Internet Day. This is a day supported by countries across Europe with schools running activities to raise awareness of how to be safe on the internet.
This year the theme is ‘Think Before You Post’. We are encouraging the school community to talk to their children about how to use the internet safely.
We will discuss SMART this week.
S – Safe – Do not give out personal information to people you are chatting to online e.g. full name, age, home address, phone number, school name, mobile number Keep your personal details private.
M – Meeting – Meeting someone on the internet can be dangerous. Talk to your parents or carer if someone asks you to meet.
A – Accepting – Be careful when opening emails, instant messages IM, files, pictures or texts from people you don’t know as they could have viruses or be nasty messages.
R – Reliable – Information on the internet may not be true. Someone online may be lying about who they are.
T – Tell – Tell a parent or carer if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable, worried or afraid or if someone is bullying you.
Please visit the websites below with your child/children and discuss how to be safe online.
